Carrie Underwood stood out on Wednesday night's Country Music Association Award's live broadcast on Nov 2 - for all the right reasons.

Underwood took home the Female Vocalist of the Year award, her fourth win in the category and her first CMA win since 2008.

Having sent three singles from her current album to the top of the country charts this year, no other female nominee had duplicated Underwood's success in 2016.

Also nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Underwood was not able to beat Garth Brooks, despite having sold-out Madison Square Garden and having sold over 800,000 tickets this year for her Storyteller Tour.

Underwood further lost nominations in the Album of the Year and Musical Event category for her work with country icon Keith Urban, but considering the lukewarm response female artists typically receive from the male-oriented CMA Awards, it was a surprise she even won Female Vocalist.

The win marks her 7th CMA honor to date.
